At Independent Living, we take great care to ensure you get the best impartial advice for your specific situation. This is made possible not only by being a charitable trust (with your best interests as our key priority), but also by ensuring our team have the right training to best serve you.
Our entire team are trained in the various product ranges we sell, as well as attending courses relevant to mobility, disability support and assistive technology.
In addition, at each of our stores we have staff with either lived experience of disability, or specific skillsets to help you get advice tailored to your personal circumstance – be it a specific health condition or a language barrier.

Marian |
Born and raised in Korea, but very much a Kiwi now, Marian is a fluent Korean speaker with strong community connections. Marian advises on the range of supports available to people with disabilities, gives regular presentations to the Korean community as well as actively presenting to wider cultural groups. |

Xiu |
Raised in the Anhui Province of China, Xiu is a fluent Mandarin speaker. Xiu is an integral member of the Auckland Chinese community and can advise on different organisations who can support elderly Chinese or those with mobility or disability issues. |

Nicola |
Nicola has lived experience following her partner becoming an amputee and wheelchair user. Nicola therefore is well-placed to advise those moving to wheelchair use or living with restricted movement on ways to enable daily living and mobility easier. |
Nicola is the manager of our Browns Bay store and works weekdays. |
Tony |
Living with Muscular Dystrophy, Tony has been a wheelchair user since his early 20s. He is an Assistive Technology mentor and Be Lab Master accessibility coach, assisting businesses to make workplaces more accessible. Tony is an expert on navigating the disability environment, advice on sourcing funding, adapting home environments – in fact pretty well anything related to living with disability. |

Richard |
Part of the “Zipper Club” after his triple heart bypass, Richard knows the impact traumatic health conditions can have on your physical and mental wellbeing. As an Assistive Technology mentor, Richard can advise on the right mobility products to support recovery, or to adapt to reduced mobility. Richard also gives presentations on assistive technology to retiree groups, as well as offering a home trial service of mobility scooters and power chairs. |

Meg |
Meg is a long serving team member at Royal Oak and has assisted hundreds of seniors and those living with disability to regain their independence and confidence through the selection of the best products for their specific needs – and budget! Currently completing Assistive Technology course competencies, Meg is trained to advise on product solutions for different disability situations. |
Meg is our Senior staff member at Royal Oak, and works weekdays. |
