2. Second Hand Scooter looking for a new home....

ILS have been asked to find a worthy recipient to enjoy a pre-loved Invacare Leo scooter* .  Details on the scooter are
  • 1 careful lady owner - looking to pass the scooter onto someone who will get as much enjoyment out of it as she has
  • approximately 4 years old
  • compact mini-scooter more suitable for flat terrain and short trips to the shops
  • maximum speed 8km/h
  • maximum weight capacity 136kg
  • "as is where is" basis**

The new owner will need to live in Auckland and under go a scooter assessment to ensure compatibility.

3. New products to ILS

Looking for a lift chair?

Come instore and try these out for yourself!  These new lift chairs are available in a range of colours, so there is something to suit everyone.

The range includes the

  • Galaxy (pictured) - which has a sensor bar along the edge of the base to halt the motion of the chair if an object is in the way of its movement
  • Comfy - with its 'wallsaver' design allowing the chair to be positioned nearer to the wall than conventional recliner chairs. 
  • Cresta - full footrest extension and full back recline (approx 45 degrees) allowing for comfortable supine relaxing position

4. Stroke Support: Visual Art & Art Therapy 2016

Would you like the opportunity to engage in creative expression, and connect with a like community?  Mapura Studios offer three different programmes for people with Stroke Affect:


Art Therapy After Stroke: this group-centred enquiry process initiates a journey of self-reflection and in-depth examination of the experience of having a stroke-affect. The process is dynamic and life enhancing. The next art therapy programme is scheduled for the second half of 2016.

Arts Transition: is a focussed programme that continues to support people making the transition from the arts therapy programme to the eventual involvement in "Leading a Creative Life". Weekly programme is Wednesday 1 - 3pm, $220, 10 week term (incl art materials).

Leading a Creative Life: this programme provides a supportive, instructive and stimulating environment for people living with stroke-affect (or similar disability) to develop a strong visual arts practice. Weekly programme is Thursday 10am - 12.30pm, $275, 10 week term (incl art materials)

6. New Zealand Sign Language Week

is this week Monday 9th May until Sunday 15th May and there are many different events happening all around the country to celebrate.

7. Stars! Dance Movement Therapy & Arts Therapy

offer programmes for children and teens on the autism spectrum and other special needs. The programmes focus on developing social skills and emotional literacy in supportive, physical and fun activity based group. Sessions include dance, movement, music, play and body awareness activities. Arts Therapy groups include artmaking.

8. Disability Services for Adult Former Refugees

Come along to the first of a series of three Refugee Health forums in 2016. This session will focus on a theme of 'Navigating disability services for adult former refugees'. Often disability services can be profoundly difficult to navigate, particularly for people from former refugee backgrounds who may have a complex array of health, disability and resettlement needs.

The forum will aim to:

  • Identify the daily challenges of accessing adequate care and support when using disability services
  • Highlight key disability services available to adult former refugees in the health & disability system
  • Discuss enablers that would assist individuals, primary health and agencies to support better navigation and access to disability services

When: Wednesday, 25 May 2016, 6.30 - 8.00pm, (Doors open at 6pm- refreshments served)

9. Charity Art Auction

featuring works by renowned NZ artists in support of the Mapura Studios Stroke Art Therapy Programme Mapura Studios with the Rotary Clubs of Mt Eden and Epsom.

11. uberAssist: Expanding Transportation Options in NZ

Uber have launched a new service in Auckland and Wellington that caters for riders with different accessibility needs. UberASSIST drivers have been educated around accessibility and safety, and can also accommodate folding wheelchairs, walkers, and collapsible scooters. Note: uberASSIST vehicles do not have accessible ramps or lifts.

You don't have to prepare something new, it may be something you have already performed but would like to share it with all the people who come to InterAct.
