1. Learn more about biosecurity

ILS is organizing a public workshop with a senior quarantine officer from Ministry of Primary Industry to provide information on custom protection and biosecurity for the Chinese community.

In addition there will be a Doctor from Malaysia to give traditional medicine health knowledge and also a Taichi Fan Dance course.

3. Arthritis Workshop for the Korean Community

ILS will be hosting an Arthritis workshop with Jane Messer (Arthritis NZ) for the Korean community and service providers to learn about:

  • understanding and managing arthritis pain
  • the warning signs and symptoms
  • how to prevent this disease in every day life
  • what we can do, what services are available and how to manage if you have arthritits

Date: Tuesday 28th March
Time:  11.00 to 12.00pm

11. Auckland Council Training Partnership scheme for groups

Non-profit groups can apply for discounted training to upskill personnel through the council's training partners. Partners include ACE Computer Training, the University of Auckland Business School, Employers and Manufacturers Association and Leading Edge Training Solutions.

12. Youth Citizens Jury

Auckland Council is wanting to take a journey with 100 young people to discover a new design and for the Youth Advisory Panel. These young people will be tasked with deciding on how we elect the new Youth Advisory Panel and develop how they can best serve the young people they represent.

The Auckland Youth Citizens Jury will be held on the 8th March 2017 at the Auckland War Memorial Hall from 9am-4pm.  People aged 14–24 years can apply to join the jury.

13. Celebrating International Women's Day

The Disabled Women’s Forum is holding a workshop featuring stories of personal leadership. The workshop will feature three speakers:

  • Ronelle Baker on being the CEO of a National Disability Provider
  • Kylie Elsbury-Dawson on being a new parent
  • Debbie Ward on her journey into politics

14. Dans le Noir ? at Rydges

Dans le Noir? at Rydges is a project set up by Dans le Noir ? and Rydges Auckland. 

“Dans le Noir ?” (French for “In the Dark ?”) opened in the past 13 years several restaurants (Paris, London, Barcelona,…) offering patrons a unique human and sensory experience by eating in complete darkness, guided and served by either a visually impaired or blind staff. 

The hiring process for the staff of guides will take place on or about March 14th 2017. Once hired, guides will be required to participate in a training to learn appropriate methods of guiding people into a totally dark environment, from March 15th to March 23th 2017.

15. Manukau East Patient Transport Services 

offer a Monday - Friday: a twice daily door-to-door Shuttle Bus service for all to

  • Botany SuperClinic
  • Mankau SuperClinic
  • Middlemore Hospital

If you need to change your appointment time to fit the Shuttle Bus timetable please ring the Clinic or Hospital staff - their number is on your appointment letter. They will do their best to try and change your time.

We recommend bookings are made as soosn as you get your clinic letter. Bookings must be made a minimum of 2 working days in advance of travel.

For information, timetables and bookings call 0800 637 284 (Monday - Friday between 9am - 5pm). Cancellations must be advised as soon as possible.

Clients should be mobile enough to enter and exit the Shuttle Bus independently with minimal help. Unfortunately wheelchairs cannot be accomodated.

The residential pick up area: Howick Ward residents including Bucklands Beach Peninsula, Pakuranga, Howick, Dannemora, Botany and Flat Bush.

16. Manukau East Shopping Shuttle

A door-to-door service every Thursday, alternate weeks to 

  • Botany Town Centre
  • Pakuranga Plaza

Morning pick-up, 2 hours shopping and return early afternoon. $5 includes return trip & cup of coffee or tea. Book a "Companion Shopper" or "Mobility Equipment" if you need assistance.

To book, call 0800 632 677. Bookings must be made on Monday of every week. Please leave a message if you receive an answering machine and your call will be returned. Cancellations must be advised ASAP.

The shopping shuttle pick-up area includes: Bucklands Beach Peninsula, Pakuranga, Howick, botany, Dannemora and Chapel Road (from Whitford Road to Stancombe Road).

17. Kids Connect Camp - where friends and memories are made!

This is a fun fill weekend where kids aged 9-16 with physical and mild intellectual disabilities, can have a blast, make new friends and enjoy a weekend especially designed with them in mind.

19. VV Training

VV Training is offering the following courses: 

LEADERSHIP ESSENTIALS  – for Team Leaders new to stepping up

  • First course: March 24 & 31 April 7 & 21   (mornings - 2 places left)    
  • Second course: September 22 & 29 October 6 & 13    (mornings) 

ADVANCED LEADERSHIP  – Mediation  skills & working with participant specific challenges  
  • June 16  23  &  30  July 7  (Mornings - Leadership Essentials a pre-requisite)

 PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT – using Role Training & Psychodrama – for those wanting to re-organize their private inner workings

20. Arthritis Pain Management Workshop

Arthritis Pain Management Workshop will be held on Thursday 30 March from 10am - 12 noon at ILS, 14 Erson Ave, Royal Oak. Come along an understand how to manage arthritis pain.

21. Massey Matters

Massey Matters works and connects with local residents, community groups, businesses and agencies, creating opportunities to make Massey an even better place to live. They need funding for a community van to help more people participate in community events and activities. 

Massey Matters are a finalist in the Trusts million dollar mission which is giving back $1,000,000 to community groups all over West Auckland.

22. Korean Day

Korean Day 2017 is a great way to be introduced to Korean cultural heritage. Activities include:

  • Korean traditional art performance
  • Traditional games and craft experience

23. Senior Move Managers

Senior Move Managers assist older adults and vulnerable populations when they need to move residence. They provide a range of support from assisting them in the relocation of they physical items to helpuing them sell their home and everything in between.
