1. Cabinet paper on system transformation of disability support released

The Minister for Disability Issues Nicky Wagner has released a Cabinet paper about the high-level design for the new disability support system.  The design is the result of intensive work over a number of months by a group of disabled people, disability sector representatives and officials.

2. Depression and Anxiety Workshop 

ILS is hosting a depression and anxiety workshop for the Korean community and service providers to learn about

  • how to recognise depression and anxiety
  • knowing how to relate to those experiencing struggling with mood swings or distress
  • knowing how to manage it

The presenter is Julia Kwon (Counsellor with the North Shore Women's Centre)

When: Tuesday 5th September 2017
Time: 11am - 12pm
Where: Hanouri Korean Church, 59 View Road, Glenfield, North Shore

3.  Auckland Seniors Support & Caring Group Meeting

Would you like to improve your English or just need a little help?  The Auckland Senior's Support & Caring Group set up by Zhengxiu Xie from ILS are holding weekly meetings to do just this.

Please plan to arrive before your group's start time so that the therapist is able to start the group on time.

If your child will be absent from any sessions, please advise the respective therapist in advance. Your child is missed when they are away and it is helpful to let the other children know when someone won't be attending. Please text or call your therapist if your child can't attend on the day.

If you have a carer support form, you are welcome to bring it along for the therapist to sign, then you can fill it out and post it off to the Ministry after the final session of the term.

11. Mt Roskill Housing Development updates

A subsidiary of Housing NZ, HLC (Homes. Land. Community.) are holding information sessions in Puketapapa for residents and local community stakeholders, regarding housing redevelopment in the May Road/Freeland Ave area.

Meet the team every second Thursday of the month from 1.30pm - 2pm:

12. North Shore Teens Art Group 2017

An open studio art group for teenagers of all abilities aged 12 (approx.) years plus; particular provision is made for teens with autism and other special needs.

The arts therapist and facilitators work to progress art making abilities, and to extend group-held, collective themes of interest on which to base subject matter for creative projects. A safe environment is provided for teens to form supportive relationships with one another – and to share and explore their creative ideas. These sessions run on a weekly basis during term time and are ongoing.

The details are:
When: Term 3, 25 - 26 Sept (10 weeks)
Day: Tuesday 4pm - 5.30pm
Where: PHAB Takapuna Club Rooms, 8 Auburn Street, Takapuna, North Shore
Cost: $250 for 10 weeks. Fees include all materials and a 45 min individual art therapy pre-assessment.

14. Applications are open for WFDYS Children Camp 2018

Deaf Aotearoa is looking for two young deaf people aged 9 to 12 to represent Deaf Aotearoa and New Zealand at the WFDYS Children Camp in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

We are also looking for a Leader aged 21 to 30 to accompany the young people and help facilitate at the camp.

15. Auckland Chinese Medical Association 2017 Free Health Talks

ACMA's free health talks are catering for the Auckland Chinese community. The talks will be presented in Chinese by a number of well-known local medical professionals to help uncover your health concerns and disease prevention. Plus a free health check after the seminar.
