Walkers provide people the freedom to move about safely

Do you know someone who uses a walker?  Are you confident it’s the right height?

Most people may not know the correct height to set up a walker, but ILS Mobile Manager Kaz Howlett certainly does.

As part of her presentation to community groups, Kaz demonstrates assistive products that make a difference to achieving daily tasks, particularly if you’re dealing with the impact of arthritis or stroke.

Part of the presentation includes safety checks for walking sticks and mobility walkers to ensure the heights are safe, comfortable and suited to the individual.

Here are some comments from recent feedback following a presentation with Age Concern Counties Manukau:

Participants were asked, What did you find most helpful about this workshop?

Responses included:
  • Some amazing simple but useful gadgets available. Good to know a new showroom is opening locally. Good to see correct use of some new gadgets.
  • Knowledge gained from display of products.
  • That there is so much available to assist us “oldies” when we require it.
  • Able to pass this information on to others – very useful.
  • Resources and aids are available but when you need them one day.
  • Just seeing how things worked.
  • Finding my walker needed to be lowered (people had raised it and said I needed a higher walker) now much better.
